Watermarks: ff. 1–16: three mountains with a cross above similar to Briquet 11696 (1424–1426, see Sandri 2023, 241). In the older codicological unit I was able to identify a watermark (three flowers) similar to Mošin-Traljić 4299 (1353).

Scribes: in the 14th-century section containing Moeris and Phrynichus, many scribes take turns copying and also adding marginal notes (see below C. History).

Romani de Luca or(din)is p(raedicatorum); (f. 86r) μηνὶ Φευρουαρίῳ sic κδ ἔτους ςωοδ^ου ἰνδικτιῶνος τῆς αὐτῆς ἐγεννήθη μοι παῖς, ‘In the month of February [on the] 24th [day] of the year 6874 (i.e. 24 February 1366), in the same indiction a child was born to me’; (f. 128v) δέδωκα τῷ δημάρχῳ τοῦ ἁγίου Εὐδοκίμου, ‘I gave [this] to the demarchus of Hagios Eudocimus’.

1 (f. 1r) A short list of πάθη (see Sandri 2023, 240). Incipit: ἔλλειψις οἷον ἔλλειψις, οἷον σκηπτοῦχος. Explicit: ἀλλοίωσις τῶν φωνηέντων, taken from <Manuel Moschopulus, Epitome grammaticae novae> 59.1–9 (edited in Titze 1822, 17–86). A more recent hand wrote the title περὶ τρόπων λέξεως.

2 (ff. 1r–11v) A syntactic lexicon. Title: ἀρχὴ σὺν θεῷ ἁγίων τῆς συντάξεως πῶς δὴ ὠφείλειν συντάσσειν ῥηματικὰς λέξεις ἐν ταῖς τοῦ ὀνόματος πτώσεσι. Incipit: ἀγορανομῶ· γενικῇ. Explicit: ὠφελεῖν προθυμήθητι ἀντὶ τοῖς καταπτοούμενοις. Unpublished.

3 (ff. 11v–16v) <Trypho, De tropis Iβ>. Title: φράσις τρόπων ποιητικῶν· οὗτοι μὲν οὖν οἱ τρόποι τῆς γραμματικῆς τὴν κοινὴν συνήθειαν παραβαίνοντες. Incipit: φράσις ἐστὶ λόγος ἐγκατάσκευος. Explicit: ἐν Τρώεσι ἔση κυβιστητῆρες ἔασι (§35). Edited in Sandri (2023, 320–37).

4 (ff. 17r–24v) <Gregorius Pardus, Περὶ συντάξεως λόγου>. Title: τοῦ περιτίμου ἐν φιλοσόφοις κυρίου Μιχαὴλ σύντομος ἐξήγησις περὶ συντάξεως ἤγουν περὶ τοῦ μὴ σολοικίζειν καὶ περὶ βαρβαρισμοῦ· ἐν τῷ μεταξὺ τούτων καὶ περὶ συντάξεως προθέσεων καὶ ῥημάτων. Incipit: ὀκτὼ εἰσὶ πάντα τὰ μέρη τοῦ λόγου. Explicit: ἐνταῦθα τέλος τοῦ περὶ σολοικισμοῦ καὶ βαρβαρισμοῦ. Edited in Donnet (1967).

13 (ff. 115r–128v) Maximus Planudes (?), Technologiae. Title: ἐκ τῶν τεχνολογιῶν κυρίου Μαξίμου τοῦ Πλανούδη. Incipit: ἐντέτηκεν ἀντι τοῦ ἐγκάθηται, οἷον ἐντέτηκέ μοι ἔρως. Explicit: ῥήσω ῥήξω ἔρρηγα ἔρρωγα. On this text see Di Napoli (2022, 42–3), where this manuscript has the siglum E.

14 (ff. 129r–130v) No title. A collection of grammatical notes: mutilated at the beginning and the end. Incipit: εἰ ἐκτεινόμενόν ἐστι· εἰ δὲ μὴ ἐκτεινόμενον τοῦτό ἐστι συναιροῦσι τὸ ἐπαγώμενον. Explicit: οἱ τῇ ὑλακῇ μεμορημένοι ἤγουν.

15 (ff. 131r–137v) <[Maximus Planudes]>, Atticismi, followed by explanations of other Attic words and Attic prescriptions (there are also some items in common with the miscellany in Vat. gr. 2222Vat. gr. 2222, ff. 318r l.5–348v), erudite notes, and excerpts from largely Attic authors (Demosthenes, Xenophon, Lucian, etc.). Title: περὶ Ἀττικισμοῦ. These Atticismi are slightly different from the ones edited in Villoison (1781 vol. 2, 79–85). A new edition by Andrea Cuomo and Grigory Vorobyev is forthcoming.

16 (ff. 138r–151v) Excerpts from Philo of Alexandria, Quod omnis probus liber sit. Title: τοῦ Φίλωνος (perhaps by a later hand). Incipit: λέγονταί τινες παρ’ αὐτοῖς ὄνομα Ἐσσαῖοι (Prob. 75). Explicit: ἔπαθον τὸ Διὸς (Prob. 128). Mutilated or left unfinished.

ff. 152r–153v: blank (inserted in recent times).

17 (ff. 154r–156r) <Lycophron, Alexandra>. No title. It begins with v. 166 and ends at v. 218. The text is accompanied by scholia: some of them are found in Scheer (1908), others I could not identify. Apparently left unfinished.

18 (f. 156v) Lexicographical material. Title: παροιμίαι πάνυ ὀλίγαι (by a later hand?). Incipit: κινεῖς τὴν καμαρίναν. Explicit: εἰ μή τις ταῦτα πάτως κτητικὰ λέγει· οὕτως. Mutilated or left unfinished.

These excerpts were probably taken from a b family-like manuscript (see 1.91 πτερὰ καὶ et 2.10 παρηβηκώς ἄφηβος om. FS and Laur. plut. 91 sup. 6*).

26 (f. 231v) A brief text on the different kinds of poetry. No title. Incipit: οἱ ποιηταὶ διαροῦνται εἰς ἤδη (lege εἴδη) πλείονα. Explicit: καὶ εἰς μυρία ἕτερα εἴδη.

It is a miscellaneous manuscript containing material partly dating back to the mid-14th century and partly to the beginning of the following one. Both Moeris’ work and Phrynichus’ Ecloga belong to the 14th century. In the older section of this manuscript (at ff. 73r–149r, 154; 156v–171v; 172r–188v) one of the hands active in MS D (Darmstadt 2773)Darm. 2773 can be found ff. 106v–130v, 133v–144r and 145v–151r (see Ucciardello 2021, 54 n. 6), which suggests that the 14th section of Laur. plut. 91 sup. 10 and D may have been produced in the same milieu. The content – grammatical, lexicographic, and erudite – could be attributed to the same cultural context. It must also be said that even the way the different scribes collaborated, taking turns and adding marginal notes or filling in the spaces left blank in the manuscript, seems very similar. The codex, or at least the 14th-century section, belonged for a time, during the Renaissance, to the monastery of San Romano in LuccaSan Romano (Lucca), as the subscriptions on f. 73r attest (see Ucciardello 2021, 55 n. 6). In the same section it is possible to identify a subscription on f. 86r, in which one of the copyists writes that in that year (i.e. 1366) a child was born to him. Another subscription, by another 14th-century hand, appears on f. 128v: it mentions, as if addressed to a recipient, the demarchus of Saint Eudocimus, a neighbourhood of Constantinople (see Janin 1964, 349; on the office, see ODB s.v.), but the identity of this person remains unknown to us. It is possible that the manuscript was later used by Arsenius ApostolisArsenius Apostolis, since some notes (e.g. f. 109v on Symplegades) are found in his notebook, Vallicellianus 93 (F 40) Vall. 93 (F 40): see Cavarzeran (2019, 57).
