PURA. Purism In Antiquity: Theories Of Language in Greek Atticist Lexica and their Legacy

Lexicographic entries

About

This section hosts entries that tackle Greek words or linguistic phenomena discussed in Atticist lexica. It contributes to the first objective of PURA: to provide a comprehensive mapping of the linguistic theories of Atticist purism.

Most entries are divided into an initial section that collects Greek texts in translation, and a second section that contains a philological and linguistic commentary on the use of the lemma throughout the history of Greek (Ancient, Byzantine, and Modern Greek). Full information on the structure of our entries, the methodology, and the editorial conventions can be found in the User guide.
