Date: First half of the 15th century

Format: parchment, 135×88 mm, II + 383 ff.

Material: the parchment is in a good condition. The volume is very small (142 × 90 mm), like a handbook, although it has many pages, which gives it a very odd shape. Book titles, chapter titles, and initials are rubricated, but the ink is fading. At the beginning of each book there are some decorations in red ink.

Binding: not original, damaged.

Scribes: the entire manuscript was written by Isidore of KievIsidore of Kiev (RGK I 155 = II 205 = III 258).

1 (ff. 1r–383r) Pollux, Onomasticon. No title. Incipit: ὦ παῖ πατρὸς ἀγαθοῦ (1.1). Explicit: κόρημα, κιβωτόν, καὶ λύχνον (10.192). Contains books 1 (ff. 1r‒53v), 2 (ff. 53v‒102v), 3 (ff. 102v‒140r), 4 (ff. 140r‒189r), 7 (ff. 189r–233r) 5 (ff. 233v‒272r), 6 (ff. 272r‒314r), 8 (ff. 314r‒339v), 9 (ff. 339v‒361v), and 10 (ff. 362r‒383r).

C. History

The manuscript was written (see RGK I 155 = II 205 = III 258) and belonged to Isidore of KievIsidore of Kiev (1385–1463; Manfredini 1998, 618; on his life see ODB 2.1015–6.), a cardinal and the Latin Patriarch of Constantinople. It later belonged to Cardinal Niccolò RidolfiNiccolò Ridolfi (see Muratore 2009 vol. 2, 102) and was then transferred to France by Caterina de’ MediciCaterina de’ Medici in 1558 along with his manuscript collection (see Muratore 2009 vol. 1, 313–36); his librarian Matthaeus DevarisMatthaeus Devaris wrote at f. Ir the list of contents on f. Ir. In his edition of Pollux, Bethe relied heavily on the text of this manuscript, which is the only witness of the c family he methodically collated.
